Everything felt. Everything said. Nothing held back.
Album A: I Put a Spell on You — Nina Simone (1965)
Album B: Pastel Blues — Nina Simone (1965)
This is how the series ends.
Both albums were recorded in 1965. I Put a Spell on You is theatrical, confrontational, the voice of a woman who commands the room. Pastel Blues is its counterweight — stripped back, devastated, containing Strange Fruit and Sinnerman and some of the most powerful recorded singing in the twentieth century.
Same year. Same artist. Entirely different emotional registers. The argument for putting them together is that they show the full range of what one voice can carry.
Nina Simone does not need introduction. She needs your full attention. That is what this evening is.
Live Performance: between the albums a liver performance set - reimagined works from the artists' catalogues, played acoustic for the room.
What to expect: Two albums played in full. No skipping. No shuffling. A live performance in between.
